Think about palm trees, over 30 degrees Celsius and mountaintops with snow on them all at the same place. That was Coachella 2010 in California.
There has already been several posts about Coachella, but nothing about the festival itself! Somewhere around 75000 people attended the festival in Indio. It’s beautiful landscape was filled with tents and cars, the camping. On the other half of the grounds were 2 big stages, 3 tents, a ferris wheel, and art. The biggest art piece was a huge oregami swan, lit by night. Other pieces were pipes, light shows and traditional (I would guess) Asian houses.
Together with the music, the landscape and art make it a festival you should definitely attend once in your life.
The only downside is that due to the drinking age in the US, you can only drink beverages in certain areas, which are not all good for listening to the bands or dj’s. But still, my own experience was so good that I’m even thinking about flying to the States from the Netherlands to do this again next year.
Here are some more bands that totally rocked. To start with LCD Soundsystem. The long expected album is absolutely fantastic. It seems like James Murphy knows what good music is. On stage he keeps on talking and being pissed that he had to open for Jay Z, but the live performance was great. They took their time to let the songs build up get along, and didn’t rush a thing. They might be able to play some more songs otherwise, but who cares, you don’t want 3 minute songs live, you want a show! It definitely was a show.
You just have to watch these 2 songs from Hot Chip, they say enough!
The XX are less energetic as LCD Soundsystem, but not less good. During sunset was the best time for them to play, with their almost relaxing beautiful tunes. They played their Crystalized early, but that made the people that only came for that song go to Bassnectar (a popular DJ in America) and only the fans really enjoying it stay for more. Good deal!
Just to show you they were enjoying it and went wild:
The White Stripes, The Kills, The Raconteurs and The Queen of The Stone Age together make: The Dead Weather. Four incredible musicians making great music on album. But that is just the album, live it is an amazing energetic show with the craziness of Alison Mosshart as singer. Just watching her almost tripping on stage, makes it hard not to love.
